BJ makes a new friend...

in the midst of this storm i was able to keep to my promise and take BJ to see wall-e. needless to say, my little man was highly impressed by his new robot friend. in fact, i was ushered to the mickey mouse store (disney) so BJ could waste no time in showing me that there are already toys being made of his new buddy. there's also all the accessories and "must have" robot friends to enhance the experience. perhaps another time we'll return to adopt the miniature die cast wall-e but right now daddy is being very careful about all spending. the motion picture was thanks to a generous gift that i received to make good on my word. another small indication of how cool and impressive people can be when they set their heart to something.

sleeping at last was as i expected they would be - brilliant. the show was last friday in holland, at a venue called park theatre. i'd never been to this particular side of town so it was cool to be introduced to a whole different side of holland than i knew existed. the variety of merchant storefronts and olde town village atmosphere really makes for a cool summer evening. my house mate and i stopped by an independent coffee vendor afterward since he's really trying his hand at getting me to drink some joe with him. i'm not impressed by anything but what others might refer to as "candy coffee" and even then it's in such moderation that i'm the furthest thing from being considered a regular. as has already been documented much earlier, i am more of a loose tea kind of guy. nevertheless, my house mate and other friends still try valiantly to get me to crossover. i guess maybe its a fraternal thing, especially considering what i recall observing in college. i did appreciate the culture and aesthetics of some local coffee houses but the most extravagant i would get is my occasional sampling of their fresh chai tea. i know, not very innovative. still has all the healthy antioxidants, nonetheless.

i'm not usually one for gossip or political propaganda but i simply must comment on the detroit mayor. mr. kilpatrick makes it fairly easy to place a big target on his chest and fire. seriously, this guy is completely out of control. a judge makes it very plain so as not to confuse the small details of the mayor's expectations... and what does he do? well, he chooses to try his luck at taking a siesta in canada. albeit he only decided to make it as far as windsor, it was far enough for others to spot him in the act. did he honestly think that he wouldn't be seen? i doubt it. i don't think he cares much, which has been further affirmed by his reaction to being thrown in jail today. as the age old adage says... well, let's just leave it at the need to find a nice dinner fork.

i'm sure this is clear but i'm still searching for new work, driving hard to find where i might be used to help people most. i won't go into this much because it has easily been what is consuming each of my days, therefore making it a subject for which i don't care to elaborate. i'll sum it up by saying that i have to kill my pride every single day and humble myself before my Maker. 10+ years in the professional workforce doesn't appear to make much difference. i'm not believing that lie but that's what employers would have you believe, if you're willing. they are being incredibly selective because they know they can. there are 7 times more candidates available for each available position than this same time last year. alarming, to say the least.

i keep growing closer to cool hand luke's latest LP entitled "the sleeping house." i would strongly suggest visiting their website at www.coolhandlukeonline.com when they officially re-launch. another band i've been excited about lately is the hush sound. i saw them in concert for the first time a few years ago and then managed to set them aside shortly thereafter. well, now they have recently released a follow up to their impressive debut. they have a few songs available for streaming on myspace, which i would recommend looking into when you find time.

lastly, i just want to take a moment to highlight something really cool that happened to me inside of the past few weeks. i successfully managed to connect with one of my very good friends from college after what he would admit was far too long. so tonight i raise my glass to Jack (his name, not the drink) and toast the difference he made for several years at school and the fantastic testimony he gave concerning a marriage, family, and new home. it's amazing how things and people change (especially when its a good thing that they have) because the last memory i have of Jack and i was just before we graduated college... there was a twilight jaunt to a not so local (insinuating that it took some effort on our part) strip club, complete with a primer effort from some JD country cocktails or mudslide, i don't recall which. that was honestly one of (if not "the") first time i'd ever graced a fine establishment otherwise known as a gentlemen's club. i seem to remember having the absolute time of our lives. it was shortly thereafter, maybe even the very next day that Jack and i had to part ways. even if i have a few small details of this story jaded, i'm definitely not confused about the important parts. Jack and I found many commonalities between our shared love of detroit sports and all different kinds of music, to name a few. we didn't seem to have any difficulty finding ways to pass time. i'm not sure at what point in my life that later became such a chore.

currently have the mp3 player on shuffle and the lions game on in the background. current selection on showcase is "all the same" by fat amy. how fitting that the giants found a way to lock the score at 10 a piece heading into the 4th quarter. this song hopefully will not be an indication of what's to come because lions fans all around the world can't handle more of the same. it is after all only game 1 of the preseason but a few early victories would bolster a lot of confidence for this young team.

ok, thanks for checking back and by all means, be and do well.
